[sigh] There was things put into place in the 1930 is that keep a bank from losing your money. FDIC and others. Nobody is going to touch your money.

Unknown. When the market recovers you wo not be there and what you have already lost will be gone. l suggest you do half, that will reduce the pain either way.

depends on your age really.. if l was close to retirement then l would probably move my investments around to a money market.. or to bonds

but since i'm 30 years away from retiring.. i'm keeping it in stocks and riding this thing out until it gets better.. we wo not bottom out until next year.. so get ready

No. Never try to time the market. You only maximize ur losses that way. Just make sure ur account is balanced according to ur risk profile. The rule of thumb is to have the same percentage as ur age in bonds & the rest in stocks. You should move it gradually, not all at once. By taking it out now u lose money in the long term. And thats when you're going to need it, in retirement. With low prices ur money buys more. And when the market recovers u make money. The key to adding money in a downturn is to be diversified. Which a 401k presumably is

If you plan allows you to switch back and forth, it would be a good idea. The first lesson in investing is to ''minimmize your loss.'' But if you cannot switch back into the market when market settles down, you then would have ''realized'' your loss (not just a paper loss) by switching to guaranteed interest funds.
