i'm 15 and i'm curious as to how it works. l see my grandma sit in front of the telly everyday watching the stock market channels. she earns a lotta money from it.

Sometimes not very well.
The established stock markets r supposed to provide a regulated way for people to buy & sell stocks in certain ''publicly traded'' companies. You have to pay fees to buy & fees to sell in addition to the price of the stock.
Before u start buying & selling stocks u should understand not only the stock market & how it works but also understand the company that the stock represents & how it is run, what kind of future do u think they will have & how smart r the people that run the thing?
Go to the library & start reading the newspaper called the wall street journal. Talk to ur Grandmother about what u read & ask her questions. Within a couple of months u will be able to hold a very intelligent conversation with any investor & during a downturn in the market values like this it is an excellent time to learn!
