Here is what l meant.... what businesses can one start that would probably do well in a recession. For instance (alarm installation, selling medicaresupplement plans etc)

Any others that anyone can think of?

Businesses that sell small things that people buy every year will keep earning profits.
Businesses that sell big things that people do not buy every year might not be making profits for a few months or years.
Most people do not buy houses, cars, or furniture every year.

might start a brewery. Beer sales tend to do well as people attempt to drowned their sorrows.

haha beer probably true (alcohol stocks) but gold also is suppost to do well its cheap right now too .. check out AUY im bullish as a bull on this stock haha

In a bad economy go for the stocks that provide things people need: food, containers, medicine, consumer staples (represented by the Consumer Staples Select Sector, SPDR's), services, and utilities.

Avoid: Luxury goods, construction equipment stocks, technical, energy, or industrial stocks in a recession.
