I am a student and I am not a big spender. l have about 16,000$ in an ING direct account at 3%, and l saw a 4.25% GIC from RBC for 2 years. Is this a good rate for a GIC, or is there other GIC/bonds that are more interesting if l wanna keep that money safe for about 2-5 years?
I am not interest in mutual fund, even less the stock market since l do not wanna see my money down at all during my investment period.

4.25% is a good rate considering the investment and it is safety. l have not seen any fixed income products or accounts offering this high a rate lately. And considering the type of investment I'd be surprised if there are any that are 'guaranteed.' l am not the omnipotent though, so there may be a higher rate somewhere.

You ING account is protected by FDIC insurance. l do not believe that a GIC is.
