Please can someone talk me through how a currency swap actually works, with the aid of an example and actual values?

Currency swaps are private contracts which take place between two cooperating financial institutions. These swaps give lenders protection from bad borrowers. The most difficult part is locating a willing and financially qualified participant. And because swaps are private contracts and not securities so they do not trade on exchanges thus they are not subject to disclosure requirements.
