Besides researching the company, what are the most important things you look at before you invest in a stock? For example, you enter a stock symbol intofinance or Google finance and you're given all this information. What are the things to look for? Is it the 52 week high is and lows, is it how well or badly they've been doing for the past month, etc.

I am doing this stock thing in my finance class and want some help.

52 wk highs & lows r no value in this choppy market. it is just an indicator of where we were. Only ones being at their 52 week highs now would be ultrashort etf is basically. Use p/e to compare it to it is competitors in the sector. Lower p/e =the better bargain for earnings. You pay higher pe is for bigger growth prospects. l look at dividend yields, p/e, 50dma & 200dma for a range. The ranges have been wiped out because of the trashing we've been given. Look under key statistics on . Find all the numbers u need.
