This is the case. My grandfather originally invested in a healthcare company 50 years ago. He bought a maximuum of 63,000 stocks for the company which at the time were valued at a total of like $200 bucks. Turns out through the years this company became the largest healthcare company in Puerto Rico. This company now has yearly revenues in the hundreds of millions of dollars. So the stocks that once cost $200 dollars all together are now worth 17 dollars each last time l checked. 17 x 63,000= 1,071,000. Amazing huh? My grandfather passed the stocks to my father.Check this out. Now after all these years the company has agreed for the stockholders to sell 1/3 of their shares each year. so that means a total of 21,000 shares a year. my family sold the first share and this upcoming year 2009 we were planning to sell another 1/3 of the shares but now the company has said something about them becoming a merger and somestuff like that im not sure of all the details but they are saying that they now dont have to pay the current stock price and they are only going to pay the original stock price for the remaining shares. for all those that know about investing in the stock market l ask you. Can they do this?Is this legal? Can they be sued? What steps can be done to resolve this issue?

Sounds like you're getting hosed.

Is this a publicly traded company? If so then you should be able to just sell the shares on the open market for the current rate. This sounds like it may be some other kind of thing, though.

If in doubt, contact a lawyer and bring them all the paperwork and information you can (what you've provided here is not much to work with).
