is it a good idea to invest shares into for example Lloyds tsb or HBOS banks while the share price is this low.

surely the government bailout will help them establish their position once again so is it a wise move to buy low and sell high

professional opinions would be great, im not looking for someone to answer agreeing with me just correct info and maybe advice in general on where to invest in this situation and stars will be awarded

Ye aint gonna get a civilised answer here, at least not a choice.

look elsewhere , if they have not survived it ai not gonna look good , if they need bailing out they may just tick over in the future and be swallowed up .

Dodgy to request financial advice in such a forum but, & this is not advice, there r quite a few investors, either day traders who have been doing very well, or longer term players who feel that now or very soon is a good time to buy shares, not just in banks but in various firms, as the lows we r at now r tempting.

The key is to be able to spend ur money on the stock & be prepared to see it fluctuate in price, sometimes going down, without panicking.

Some banks look very good value, The Swiss Bank UBS for example is a very strong firm, has been guaranteed not to fail by the Swiss government & is trading at around 18 swiss francs per share, this historically is stupidly low. If u r willing to sit on ownership of shares for a while then u could do very well. Could take a year, could take three years but picking a good strong firm with a low price is a decent bet.

The key thing to remember is that even decent bets fail & so u should only look to invest money that u can afford to lose.

But like l said, none of that is professional advice just my thoughts. Speak to an expert if u r serious, not .

Invest in what you know something about.

If they are cheap there must be a good reason. Nobody else wants them so all those informed people including the bankers themselves must know something. They may well be too expensive at any price.

When governments step in they take control and they are not there to protect shareholders so be warned.

For the moment it is not good idea to invest in bank is shares of stocks. Wait until stock market is good.
