l would not be buying it or any other utility as a short term play as ur question suggests.

That being said, it is sporting a 4.4% dividend yield, & took it on the chin along with the rest of the market. S&P rates it as a buy (4 out of 5 stars). They have a credit rating of BBB (but l personally think the credit ratings r especially bogus due to recent market turmoil & the freezing up of the credit markets).

If this is ur only proposed investment, l would like to see u in a broad ETF or mutual fund so u have some diversification. We also have not discussed what ur risk tolerance is, whether u have a rainy-day fund, have u maxed out on ur tax-advantaged investing (e.g., 401-k) plus all the other solid financial planning questions.

That is what u get when the guy answering ur question is a CPA & a Certified Financial Planner (R).
